National 30km Racewalk Championships

Shore AC's three man team came up just short in the battle for the team title at the National 30km Racewalk Championships, held October 28 in windy Hauppauge, NY. Scored on the basis of overall time, Pegasus of Michigan just edged Shore AC, 8:47:26 to 8:48:40. Varsano's Chocolates Racewalking followed closely at 8:53:35 for third. Shore's Rich Leuttchau, in his first race longer than 20km, was among the early leaders, hitting 10km in 48:40 before struggling due to a foot injury. Rich hung in there to finish in 2:48:02 for 8th place, 5th US. John Soucheck slowed over the last 10km feeling the effects of his recent 50km Olympic Trials qualifying effort for a 2:43:17, 7th place, 4th US, 1stM40 finish. Rounding out the team was Tom Quattrochi , whose 3:17:21 garnered him 2nd in M55.

National 5km Racewalk

Panse Geer, coming off her fine performance at the World Masters Championships, was first W60 and 20th woman overall at the USATF National 5km Racewalk Championships in Kingsport, TN on October 6. The next weekend, she followed that up with another age group win and 9th woman at the National One Hour Racewalk Championship in Waltham, MA. Panse covered 9,593m when time was called.

John Fredericks also competed in Kingsport. His 29:09 was good for 16th in the men's race, 3rd in M55. John was coming off the USATF 40km Racewalk hosted by Shore AC, where he contributed to Shore AC's second place team finish. More details on that race at www.shoreac.org under the USATF40k tab.
