International Visitor
On Monday, English Author John Bryant visited New Jersey to take a look at the Shore Athletic Club's Johnny Hayes Collection. Mr. Bryant is researching a forthcoming book and is seen in this photograph commenting on Hayes' autograph book as club president Walter MacGowan looks on. The book contains autographs of many athletic greats of a century ago. Next year marks the centennial of Hayes' victory in the 1908 Olympic Marathon, comsidered a landmark race by many authorities on the sport.

NATIONAL 10KM RACEWALK TEAM CHAMPS
On June 2, the Shore AC racewalk team took to the pavement of Niagara Falls for the National 10km Racewalk Championships for Senior men and women. In hot, humid conditions, the walkers faced eight loops of the 1250m course on Goat Island. Rich Luettchau walked an excellent 47:53 for third place to lead the Shore AC team to victory. Many walkers slowed in the second half, but Rich was strong the whole way through. John Soucheck contributed a 52:01 in 8th, 2nd M40-44 and Dave Talcott won the M45-49 in 55:30. Shore totaled 2:35:24 for the 3 man team. Pegasus from Michigan (2:44:43) edged out Niagara Walkers (2:45:07) for 2nd. Matt Boyles took the men's win in 42:48 with Olympian Teresa Vaill the women's champ.
