Art Glass Returns To NJ

From an e-mail from Colleen Glass Swansson received on 3/31:
(again, please leave good wishes by using the comments at the bottom)

Well, the latest news: My Dad has moved! He is now at the Meadowlands Hospital up in North Jersey. (I know, still not exactly close to home, but this really is the best place for him right now). It's called the Center for Acute Pulmonary Care. There, they will be able to really be proactive in Rehab, giving him phycial therapy every day (i know if nothing else, he will at least be happier, moving around a lot more). Also, their main objective, and their speciality, is to wean him off of the ventilator. This is a process that may take just a few days, or up to a couple of months. It's not just a matter of his breathing on his own, it's re-learning to control his breathing, etc, so that he does not get sick. As of now, he is initiating his breaths. But, they can't just take him off of it, or he may only have shallow breaths, and not be able to cough up mucous, or clear his throat - things like that, which keep people from getting sick. So, the vent-weening will teach this control. He was just moved yesterday, late afternoon. But, so far this place seems great, and we're all comfortable and happy that it is a step forward, into rehab...Again, if you're updating anyone, please express our sincere thanks for all of the wonderful thoughts, encouragement, and prayers. It helps so much. We just can never underestimate the power of prayer and positive thinking!!

Oh, actually, I have the address where he is now, and you can feel free to pass this along too: Meadowlands Medical Center, 55 Meadowlands Pkwy.- Room 261, Seacaucus, NJ 07094.

As far as his condition, there are no major changes right now. But, we really feel that he has been more responsive the last few days....opening his eyes from time to time, and it seems as though he does this in reaction to certain things that we say. Did I tell you about the latest EEG? I can't remember if I did. Well, they did another EEG (brain activity) test last Friday. The neurologist was happy with the results - they saw more meaningful brain activity than on the last EEG, over a week prior to this. The doctor said this was a good sign, and improves the prognosis. Of course, doctors are hesitant to predict anything, but they did say that it was improvement on his part, and that it was better than they expected. So, we continue to have faith in God, and in my Dad. We were so happy to have that good news.

I hope all is well, and that you have a chance to get out and enjoy this weather today...have a good run/walk!!!
